Transition for the 2014-15 School Year
We are delighted to announce that we have identified the next Principal of Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies. Dr. Curtis Lewis, founding Principal of Henry Ford Academy: Elementary School, will step into that role in July 2014.
Dr. Lewis is an accomplished urban K-12 educator and school leader. He has received awards from both the Michigan Chronicle and Teach for America this year, recognizing his outstanding school leadership. He came to our district from Teach for America – Detroit, where he was a manager of Teacher Leadership Development. Not only does he have significant K-12 teaching experience, he has also taught at both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, coordinated an intervention program for first time youth offenders, and directed a mentoring program for young men of color. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and his Ph.D., all from Michigan State University.
In two short years Dr. Lewis has established Henry Ford Academy: Elementary School as one of the premier schools in our community, meeting all of the State of Michigan’s goals and being recognized by Excellent Schools Detroit in 2013 as “Making the Grade.” He is extremely excited to now focus his attention on the growth and development of our middle and high school students and extend his impact in our District.
We look forward to hosting an opportunity for you and your students to meet Dr. Lewis. Please mark your calendar now so that you are able to participate on June 25, 2014 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the first floor common space at Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Ms. Nan Gill, HFLI’s Director of Education and our District’s Acting Superintendent at email@example.com or 313-695-1723.
