November 30, 2016 - “Freland Pridgen, an 11th grade student at Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies, died on Sunday, November 27, 2016 following an act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Although he was new to our school this year, Freland quickly made many friends and was well liked by students and staff.
This tragedy raised many emotions for our entire school. Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies has a student services team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. We met with high school students on Monday and provided the opportunity for them to circle and pay homage as a village through heartfelt expressions such as discussions of loss and a libation ceremony.
Our students and staff members are encouraged to draw pictures, write poems, and leave words of encouragement and inspiration on a remembrance wall in our school. We will continue to have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding the loss of their peer and friend.” -- Curtis L. Lewis, Ph.D., Principal
